Montepulciano is a charming town, and was very welcoming to my family. We had a great time exploring the city, and visiting the wine shops, restaurants, and stores. Definitely climb the tower at the top of the city, the view is breathtaking. But be prepared to walk uphill, a lot. This town, as I am sure is the case with many other hill towns in Tuscany, is not friendly to people with walking disabilities, and only permitted cars are allowed in the city walls. If you are driving in from the surrounding area for a day visit, plan to arrive earlier in the morning as parking is a challenge. Staying in the city was a treat, but I wouldn't do it for more than a few days as leaving the city and finding parking again on your return is a challenge at best.

History and historic wines combine in Montepulciano.

History and historic wines combine in Montepulciano. My husband and I are sommeliers, art and history lovers. This town delivers on all scores and the locals are incredibly inviting and friendly - even more than the typical Italian standard. This town constantly has cultural and musical events, some serious and others simply fun in nature. Wineries close by, and the wine bars, closer.

Montepulciano is beautiful and old and hilly and kind of mysterious. It's fun to walk around – although your legs get sore! All the old buildings and streets and alleys were super cool. It was also great being in the heart of wine country. We'd heard a lot about Italian hospitality but didn't get a whole lot of that – it was still fun to explore ourselves, thpough.

The setting was breathtaking. The accommodation was picture book perfect and included free parking! The views from the bell tower, directly across the piazza, made the climb worth every step! Highly recommended but allow yourself a minimum of a two night stay!

We had the great fortune of stumbling into the start of...

We had the great fortune of stumbling into the start of their week-long Bravio delle Botti festivities in which the neighborhoods compete against one another to roll wine barrels up the steep streets of the historical center. We got to see fantastic performances by the drum and flagwaving groups, have fantastic dinners put on by each of the 8 neighborhoods (contrade), and enjoy some shows put on in the Piazza Grande. The town itself is steep and filled with cantinas. Gorgeous historical hill town surrounded by gorgeous rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves. It's Tuscany at its finest. Fairly well touristed, so be cognizant of prices and a few tourist traps, but otherwise very pleasant.

Montepulciano is a small town and everything is within walking distance, but it's very hilly (up and down). There are several good dining/drinking options (Trattoria di Cagnano on via Dell'Opio Nel Corsa was great for a late dinner!) and good for shops (tourist and retail/clothing/leather). Wine tasting is a must too (great wine options by the glass at the Montepulciano fortress and Enoliteca on via Di Gracciano Nel Corso)

Breakfast is OK, but served late from 8:30am which would be OKif there is coffee maker in the room. Being early birds we want coffee or tea as we wake up. Ramona is very friendly and served us coffee when we accidentally showed up at 8:00am. The free pick up from Montepulciano main entrance was nice and made it easy to get to the hotel. Frank who picked us up also helped us carry our luggage to our room on 2nd floor since there is no lift on the property.

Beautifully decorated boutique hotel and room on the edge of Montepulciano. Hits all the buttons. Excellent breakfast - the usual products you find in most places, but they were of very high quality local foods eg the meat, cheeses and pastries. On site parking is convenient. The garden is magnificent - beautifully landscaped and planted. On the second morning when the sun appeared the view was gorgeous. Host family / owners are very kind and friendly

This small family run hotel is a gem. The rooms and apartment are large, bright, newly renovated and spotlessly clean. Our hosts were engaging, full of local information and attentive to our every need. We had a quiet garden for relaxing after a long day as tourists, and a discounted breakfast at the historic Art Nouveau Cafe Polizano. If you want a welcoming and quiet stay in the heart of Montepulciano, this is it.

Incredible property - surrounded by beautiful landscape and is superbly decorated. There were three pools to choose from, a small gym and spa facilities which were wonderful. The room was large and very clean. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful - really made our stay. The food is also excellent and there is an extensive wine list and good drinks menu. Definitely felt like a 5-star luxury hotel experience.

A clean and spectacularly beautiful place, with a view of Tuscany.  The hostess Federica welcomed us to the hotel with a smile, and gave us the best recommendations, we ate at the best restaurant in our entire trip thanks to her. In addition rooms are huge and beautiful, there is a spa shower, the breakfast was good and there's a free parking that the hotel provides. Absolutely stunning villa and apartments in the heart of Tuscany. A stones throw from Montepulciano and many other cute hill-top towns. The place was superb, super nice and modern with a fantastic swimming pool and wonderful views over the gorgeous Tuscan landscape. Mario and the team were very welcoming and helpful. Couldn't have asked for better and I will definitely be back.

We loved the peaceful and relaxing terrace with wonderful views of Montepulciano (minutes away). Our hostess was so helpful - offering suggestions for our visits and lovely conversations. The breakfasts we had were out of this world! Finally, this was the only shower that we encountered in Italy in which my husband could fit (6'7").
